Why You Should Not Ignore Upholstery Cleaning

Most Natural and Cheap Ways to Clean Furniture

Regardless of how clean a person keeps his or her home, it is inevitable that the furniture will eventually need cleaning. Whether it is spot cleaning due to a spill or a thorough all-over cleaning, it is important to use the right products. While a person might be inclined to buy commercial cleaning products to do the trick, these products contain chemicals that aren’t always environmentally or health friendly. Instead, one’s kitchen is often filled with natural products that can safely be used to create all natural cleaning product recipes that are suitable for furniture. In addition to being eco-friendly, a person will also save a significant amount of money by using natural products such as lemons, vinegar and baking soda. The key to DIY natural cleaners is knowing what natural product to use for the cleaning one’s couches and cushions versus other furniture such as wooden tables or accents.

Removing Stains from Upholstery

Upholstery can easily become stained; particularly in households with children and pets. DIY natural cleaners are useful in removing stains from sofas and their cushions and even mattresses. To remove stains caused by spilled juice, food stains like those caused by dripped ketchup or spilled coffee, club soda on a clean cloth may work sufficiently. For more problematic stains, like those caused by pets and/or urine, scrub the area with a mixture of water and vinegar. Vinegar may also be used to remove grease stains from suede furniture.

Wood Furniture Cleaning

Vinegar, lemon juice and linseed oil are an example of a natural recipe for wood cleaner. Additional recipes use either lemon or vinegar in combination with olive oil to create an effective cleaner for one’s wood furniture. This combination of natural ingredients should only be used on wood that has been sealed. When cleaning wood, use a soft, clean cloth to rub the natural cleaner recipe of one’s choice into the wood.

Household Recipes lists household recipes for natural cleaning products. The document includes a recipe for an upholstery stain remover and wood furniture polish.

Leather and Fabric Upholstery Cleaning

DIY natural cleaners are a good option for cleaning leather furniture such as a leather coach or chair. A mixture of lemon and olive oil makes for a simple cleaner for leather. A paste of lemon juice and cream of tartar is an effective way to remove spots from leather. The paste is gently wiped onto the area with the spot and wiped clean. A dry upholstery cleaner for fabric sofas may be made from a mixture of cornstarch and baking soda, both of which will also help remove undesirable odors from upholstery.

Understanding Upholstery Fabric Cleaning Codes

Do you have a stain on your sofa? A dirt spot on your chair? It can be tricky to figure out the best course of action for dirt and stains on upholstery. Luckily, most decorator fabrics and upholstery pieces are labeled with a cleaning code and, once you understand the codes, you can tackle most mild cleaning jobs yourself. We’re going to take a look at those cleaning codes as well as some best practices for great looking, long-lasting upholstery.

The first thing to do if you have a stain on your upholstery is to look for the fabric’s cleaning code. If the piece is store-bought, the code should be on the tag. If it’s been reupholstered, check with the fabric manufacturer

Once you’ve determined how to clean your fabric, it’s always a good idea to pre-test the cleaner on a small, inconspicuous spot on the fabric. This way you can make sure the cleaner works and doesn’t leave a spot or cause the colors to bleed. If you’re in doubt about how to proceed, it’s usually best to call a professional upholstery cleaner.

“W”—Code W stands for ‘Water based cleaner’ and these are the easiest fabrics to clean. This is not the same as being machine washable, however. This code means that you can spot clean your fabric with a water-based shampoo or foam upholstery cleaner. You can use a brush to agitate the cleaner or even an upholstery attachment on a carpet cleaner. Be careful to avoid over-wetting the stain.

“S”—Fabrics that are Code S must be cleaned with solvents (dry clean only). You can spot treat stains with a water-free solvent or dry-cleaning product. Use solvent cleaners in a well-ventilated room and keep away from open flames. Avoid using cleaning products containing carbon tetrachloride, as it is highly toxic.

How to Clean a Sofa

It is an inevitable fact of life–sofas get dirty. Chip crumbs find their ways into the cracks, drinks get spilled, and pets track mud all over the surface of these sturdy pieces of furniture. Luckily, cleaning a sofa is relatively easy–all you need is a bit of time and some great cleaning supplies

Vacuum up large particles. Before getting into the deep-cleaning, you want to remove any surface debris or particles from the surface of the sofa. Use a dust-buster or a hose attachment on a full-sized vacuum cleaner to clear the sofa

Use a bristle brush. If there are any spots that have heavy dust or dirt caked in, use a stiff-bristled brush to break up the spots and vacuum up the released dirt. Rub vigorously, but not hard enough to damage the fabric

Remove lint and fur. Although some companies make products specifically for households with pets, your average vacuum cleaner won’t be able to remove lint or pet hair. Use a lint roller to remove what the vacuum cleaner can’t.

Wipe down any exposed hard surfaces. Many sofas have exposed wood or other materials, and you want to make sure you give them attention too. Find a cleaning product appropriate for the surface you want to clean. An all-purpose surface cleaner will suffice if you don’t have a surface-specific product on hand

How to Give Your Natural-Fabric Couch a Deep Clean

After a long day, your cosy couch is the perfect place to unwind, which sometimes involves stinky feet or a late-night snack. You might not realize your couch is a bit dirty, but giving it a deep clean helps remove built-up stuff that you’d rather not think about — like sloughed-off skin cells and leftover bits of food. If you have a natural-fabric couch, here’s how to make your sofa look like new again.

Identify the Fabric

Couches come in lots of shapes and materials, with some even having removable and washable cushions. If you are lucky enough to have a cotton-blend or linen couch, you can easily clean it with natural ingredients. Before getting started, give your couch a good once-over to figure out what it’s made from.

Prep Your Couch

Get your couch ready for grooming by using a clean and dry white hand towel or wash cloth to brush the entire piece of furniture, breaking up any dried-on spots and removing any bits that have made homes of nooks and crannies. You can also use a stiff brush for this step. Avoid using any coloured towels or sponges, as the dye may alter the colour of your couch.

Deep Clean

Sprinkle the entire couch with a good heap of baking soda. Baking soda helps release lurking smells and break up stains in the fabric. If you’re feeling your sofa really needs a serious clean, mix together this dry natural carpet cleaner, and then use for covering the fabric. Allow the baking soda to sit on the couch for at least 20 minutes and up to an hour before vacuuming using a brush attachment

Stains, Begone

Now take a closer look at the couch to find any lingering stains. Mix together this easy cleaning solution, and do a small fabric spot test in an unseen location to check if there’s any discolouration. Dip the wash cloth in the cleaning solution, and gently dab and rub stains — or simply use for wiping down the entire couch. You’ll be amazed with the results!

Upholstery Cleaning and Maintenance Hacks to Keep Your Sofa As New

Sofa, armchairs and other soft furnishing are a big investment for every homeowner and require certain maintenance if you want them to be hygienic and look good, even after years of use. Regular vacuuming and professional upholstery cleaning are a must to prevent the fabric from wear. But there are some other tricks that will help you prolong your furniture’s life and keep it looking as good as new for a very long time.

Bring Back Upholstery Colours with Scrubbing Brush

If you notice that your sofa’s colour has started to look faded, don’t reach out for furniture catalogue yet! Sometimes the reason the upholstery looks dull is dust, accumulated deep into the fabric’s fibres. Next time you are about to clean your sofa, take a few minutes and brush the fabric well. This will help loosen the fibres and when you run a vacuum, you will extract the deeply settled dust. After you are done the upholstery’s colour will look brighter and fresher

Fluff the Cushions to Save Their Shape

At some point, sofa cushions start looking deformed. We sit and lean on them day after day, so it is natural they start losing their shape. There are two things you can do to avoid this and protect the sofa from wear. Every now and then, take all the removable cushions of your sofa out and fluff them thoroughly. This will prevent the filling from flattening and the fabric from stretching. You can also flip the cushions if they are two-sided to avoid uneven wear and deformation

Get Rid of Pet Hair Using Tape

Even the most expensive home vacuum cleaners aren’t able to extract all of the pet hair from the upholstery. Especially, when you are dealing with short, thick kinds of fur. However, the only thing you need to pull out pet hair from the fabric is paper tape. Wrap the tape around your hand like a glove, with the adhesive side out. Tap the upholstery gently and you will be amazed how much hairs you will collect. You can use this trick to remove easily food crumbles and grit.

Lift Grease Stains with Salt

Grease stain is always bad news. If you let it sit, there’s a big chance it will become a permanent spot. The best thing to do, when dealing with a grease stain on your upholstery, is to lift the grease with salt. Cover the spill with a paper towel to extract the excessive oil. After that, sprinkle a generous amount of salt directly onto the stain. Let it sit like this for 30 minutes and vacuum. Salt will absorb most if not all of the grease. After this procedure treat the upholstery with appropriate stain removal product

A Long Distance Moving Estimate You Can Really Use

Long Distance Moving Guide

Need some direction on when to do what?  Follow this basic guideline to planning out your long distance move and it’ll be the easiest one yet!

2 Months before Moving Day:

Start thinking and planning where your furniture will go in your new home. Search for Free Floor Plan makers online. This way- you can know if there are items you’ll want to part with before you move, or if you will need anything additional shortly after your relocation.

Time to PURGE! Consider a yard sale- especially if it’s spring and you have larger or common household items you want to part with instead of moving them with you. Consider how much you can sell items for, how much they cost to re-purchase or how much it would be to move them with you. Local Charities would be happy to take what you can’t sell or if you’re prefer to take a tax deduction.

Get boxes from your mover. Many will offer a quantity of boxes at no cost, if you are already contracted to work with them. Has a friend recently moved or able to find free moving boxes on Craigslist? Stock up- you will need more supplies than you think!

Start getting to know your NEW hometown! There’s a lot to do when moving to a new city or town. Getting to know the schools your children will attend, the area amenities, community programs, Chambers of Commerce will make your transition much smoother.

If you are flying, taking the train, or will need a hotel for a few days until your moving truck arrives- make those arrangements now. You can always update reservations if needed; by booking these now, you’ll have more options to choose form and are likely to lock in a better price than if you waited until the last moment.

Sign the lease of your new apartment or contract on your new home. Both of these take time to process and get everything ready for your arrival so leaving it to the last minute can cause you a longer stay in a hotel than you would like.

As soon as you have your new address confirmed, reach out to your insurance company- Renters insurance, automotive insurance, even your medical insurance.

Pack your important documents& records before anything else. This will include any medical and vaccination documents as well as passports, birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage certificate, will and other legal documents, stock certificates, and any expensive jewelry, priceless or one of a kind treasures MUST be transported yourself.

1 Month before Moving Day:

Put in your change of address with the Post Office – you can access that here.

It’s also time to schedule the start and stop service of your utilities of your current home and new residence. Credit card companies, creditors, and your bank should also know be aware of your upcoming move.

If you have not yet signed a contract with your moving company, do it now- schedule an In Home Survey for the most accurate estimate and strongly consider Full Valuation Coverage for a Long Distance Move.

Packing lists are a huge help at this stage. Start by packing seasonal items that are not currently in use and save the day to day items for last.  Being organized NOW will save you headache of opening boxes to retrieve critical items in the coming weeks. Get your kids involved in the process- let them pack their seasonal items and toys they can live without for a few weeks.  By involving them it will lessen their stress and confusion with all the changes going on.

2- 3 Weeks before Moving Day:

Stop- look around, check the lists you made… are you on track to complete everything on time? If it looks like you are behind schedule, call your mover!  they can offer packing assistance and take some work off your plate.  Yes, it’ll cost a little more but will be well worth your sanity in the end. Consider leaving the packing of breakable items to the professionals- items that they pack are covered against damages, unlike boxes you pack yourself.

Get 1 refill of all your family’s medications, even if you don’t need it quite yet, and transfer prescriptions to a pharmacy in your new hometown.

How are your pets and automobiles getting to your new home? If you are using a service for either- make sure those arrangements are finalized.  This is a great time to double check that you have all the insurance, titles, vaccination, registration and other paperwork on hand to provide to the car carrier or pet transportation organization.

Check to see if your houseplants can be brought into your new state- often it’s best to donate them to a friend or charity- some states prohibit moving of houseplants.

Have you come across any borrowed items while packing? Library books, your neighbor’s ladder?  Return them!  Make sure you have collected all of your lent items, also- or the coat you left at the cleaners last winter!

Drain your lawn mower, weed eater, blower, etc. Fuels must be fully removed prior to transport.  Don’t forget to return the propane tank for your grill- that cannot go on the moving truck either.

Are you driving your car to your new home? It is recommended to get an inspection to ensure your vehicle is ready for the long trip!

The Week before Moving Day:

Clearly mark the items you are taking so there is no confusion on moving day. Also mark the Fragile or Load Last boxes as such- it really will make moving day smoother.

Touch base with your moving company. Arrange for payment, advise of any last minute assistance you need or changes to your plans.  Also be sure they have multiple contact numbers for you, to reach you and plan for delivery of your items.

Pack a suitcase to hold you over in transition. Confirm your travel arrangements.

Moving Day Eve- the day before Moving Day:

Unplug refrigerator, defrost your freezer, dispose of perishable items.

Clean as much as you can, vacuum and wipe down all surfaces.

Pack the last minute items you will need immediately upon arrival.

The Best Moving Tips For An Easy Long Distance Move

Selling The “Junk”

Before I ever start packing a box, I like to start each move off with a fresh start. This means selling all of the “junk”. Being 3 months (or less) out from a long distance move is the perfect time to start de-cluttering and really planning what you will be taking with you onto your new home.

Designate A Sell Section:

I first start by designating an area of my home where I can begin placing all of the items I need to sell. This allows me to keep track and sort like items such as home decor, clothing, and household items. I can easily take items from that area, photograph them for online groups/sites and place them back. As these items sell, I can put sold tags or sticky notes on them and wait for their new owners to come pick them up. Being that our home is small, I keep all of our “sell” items currently in our front entry. If you are a neat freak, like myself, the clutter will likely drive you crazy but just remember, it’s only temporary.

Selling Your Household Items Online:

No need for a garage sale, selling your home items online now is extremely easy and convenient and I have compiled a few tips to get you top dollar!

Photography is important – I cannot stress this enough. I have been selling not only my own household items online for years but also furniture I have painted to sell, along with furniture we have built. When selling online, all your potential buyer has to go off of is the photo. Take high resolution photos if you have a camera to do so. If not, cell phone quality is perfectly fine too. Take crisp clear bright images. Photograph your item using natural light at the brightest time of day in your home. If your images are still dark, you can always edit them in an app. One of my favorites is PicTapGo or VSCO, just adjust the brightness and sharpness and you are set

Stage your decor – When photographing, stage your decor to show your potential buyer how that item can be used in their own home. Think of your favorite home decor catalog, you want to buy the items in that catalog because you can vision it in your own home

Necessity Of Cable Ties And Circuit Breakers

Electrical Safety Checklist

Electrical dangers rise in the summer for a variety of reasons, but are mainly due to more outdoor activities and playing near water. Plus, risks like a blown fuse or faulty wiring are still present, so there is simply additional dangers.

That safety basics checklist includes:

  • Be aware of power lines around you and always assume that wires are “live and dangerous.”
  • Never touch an outdoor wire with any part of your body, toys or other objects.
  • Do not climb trees that are too close to power lines; even if the tree isn’t touching a line, the extra weight from someone climbing the tree could cause a branch to touch the line, which would be dangerous.
  • Fly kites and model airplanes and other toys in large open areas such as a field or a park – safely away from trees and overhead power lines.
  • Do not go into an electric substation for any reason – even on a dare. Electric substations contain high-voltage equipment, which can kill you. Also, never attempt to rescue a pet that goes inside. Instead, call your local utility company.
  • Do not use electrical devices (such as circuit breakers, fuses, GFCIs, receptacles, plugs and switches) that have been submerged.

An important safety note is remember that electrical equipment is dangerous, so do not try to rescue a family member, friend or pet that has come into contact with an electrical accident. Call 911 immediately.

Reasons to Upgrade Your Circuit Breaker or Service Panel

There are two main reasons to upgrade your service:

Safety concerns

Many homes in New England have fuse boxes and electrical panels that are 50 years old or older. This poses a safety issue because many old circuit breakers won’t trip when they are called upon to. This could be a potential fire hazard as heat builds up possibly breaking down components of your wiring and leading to a fire.

Increse your electrical system’s capacity

A new circuit breaker or service panel will give you upgraded electrical capacity throughout your home. SolvIt will make sure this is accomplished safely, up to code and with minimum disruption to your daily routines.

Safety Switches

Safety switches work by monitoring the flow of electricity through a circuit and detecting problems as soon as the current leaves the circuit. If a problem is detected a safety switch will shut off the electricity in 0.03 seconds – quick enough to save a life or prevent costly damage.

In Victoria it is mandatory to install safety switches in new premises and premises where major renovations occur. CitiPower and Powercor strongly urge customers to install one of the three safety switches available:

  1. Switchboard mounted safety switches

Switchboard mounted safety switches provide efficient protection for your entire home. They are installed by registered electricians in the same location as your meters and circuit breakers or fuses.

  1. Power outlet safety switches

Power outlet safety switches are designed to protect a single circuit in a particular part of your home. For maximum protection, a power outlet safety switch must be installed by a registered electrician on the first power point of each circuit after the switchboard.

  1. Plug-in safety switches

Plug-in safety switches are portable so they can be used outside or in areas where electricity is not usually used. Farmers often use Plug-in safety switches. They plug directly into a power outlet, providing protection at a power extension and they only protect the appliance plugged into them. Portable safety switches are available from major hardware stores.

How To Protect Yourself From House Fires Caused By Electricity

One way we can prevent electrical fires caused by an electrical arc is with Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCI). An AFCI is a circuit breaker that detects potentially dangerous electrical arcs. It disconnects the power as soon as it detects one.

“Faulty wiring is the number one cause of electrical fires. Sometimes fires happen because of poor workmanship. Other times it’s just wear and tear. But you need to know the warning signs.”

Before AFCI’s were introduced the bedroom was where most electrical fires started. But in 2002 it became code to protect all circuits that feed outlets in bedrooms with AFCIs. Now, the kitchen and bathroom are where most electrical fires start.

It’s code to have AFCI’s in the bedroom. But in some states, like Texas, it’s code to have AFCI’s protecting all of the circuits in a home. I’d like to see this in our electrical codes. Why not protect the entire house if we can? It’s a no brainer.

Counterfeit electrical products can also cause electrical fires. But it’s hard to prove it because most fires destroy the evidence – along with everything else. Plus, some counterfeit products are so good the average homeowner would never suspect they aren’t legitimate/CSA approved. The only way to know that it’s counterfeit would be by sending it to a lab to test it out. And how many homeowners do that?

Signs You Need A New Circuit Breaker

Circuit breaker replacement can be an economical investment in protecting your home while avoiding damage to your appliances and fixtures. In addition, you can rest easy knowing that your family will be safe. They are a valuable first line of defense in home safety but are often overlooked as a solution to real problems.  Your electrical panel is likely hidden in the basement or in a utility closet, well out of sight and thought. If you ignore the warning signs, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • Flickering Lights: How annoying is it when you’re eating dinner with the family and the lights keep raising and lowering like in a haunted house? While distracting, you figure you can live with it. This could be troublesome.
  • Poor Performance from Appliances: Your stove may bake unevenly or never seem to reach proper temperature. The dryer might shut off in mid-cycle. You may be convinced that all your kitchen appliances need to be replaced due to strange and inconsistent performance. Instead of purchasing new appliances, you could replace your breaker.
  • Damage to Essential Lights and Appliances: When circuit breakers fail to control the electrical currents properly, you may experience bulbs that constantly burn out or a microwave that barely functions. Overheating can occur, causing lasting damage to coils and computer boards.
  • Potential of Smoke, Fire and Water Damage: When too much power is drawn through a power cord, an electrical fire can occur. Your home could be severely damaged by smoke, water, and fire. The cost of failing to check your electrical panel for problems continues to skyrocket as does the likely hood of an electrical emergency.
  • Lower Property Value: When you experience a fire, no matter how small, the integrity and value of the property is lowered. Failing to upgrade electrical service to your home can result in a potential buyer hesitating to put in an offer.

Payroll Preparation Service

Payroll

A company’s payroll is the list of employees of that company that are entitled to receive pay and the amounts that each should receive. Along with the amounts that each employee should receive for time worked or tasks performed, payroll can also refer to a company’s records of payments that were previously made to employees, including salaries and wages, bonuses, and withheld taxes, or the company’s department that calculates and pays out these amounts. One way that payroll can be handled is in-house. This means that a company handles all aspects of the payroll process on its own, including timesheets, calculating wages, producing pay checks, sending the ACH, or Automated Clearing House, for any direct deposits, and remitting any tax payments necessary. Payroll can also be outsourced to a full-service payroll processing company. When a company chooses to outsource their payroll, timesheets, wage calculations, creating pay checks, direct deposits, and tax payments can be handled all, or in part, by the payroll company

Payroll plays a major role in the internal operations of a business for several reasons. From the perspective of accounting, payroll and payroll taxes are subject to laws and regulations. Payroll in the U.S. is subject to federal, state, and local regulations including employee exemptions, record keeping, and tax requirements. Payroll also plays a large role from the human resources point of view. Payroll errors, such as late or incorrect paychecks, are a sensitive topic that can cause tension between employees and their employer. One requirement to maintaining high employee morale is that payroll must be paid accurately and in a timely manner because employees are very sensitive to any payroll errors

Companies typically process payroll at regular intervals. This interval varies from company to company and will often differ within the company for different employees for larger companies. The four most common pay frequencies according to research conducted in February 2019 by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics are weekly at 33.8%, biweekly at 42.2%, semimonthly at 18.6%, and monthly at 5.4%. The other, much less common payroll frequencies, include daily, four-weekly, bimonthly, quarterly, semiannually, and annually.

Weekly payrolls have 52 40-hour pay periods per year and includes one 40 hour work week for overtime calculations. Biweekly payrolls consist of 26 80-hour pay periods per year and consist of two 40 hour work weeks for overtime calculations. Weekly and biweekly payrolls are the most common for nonexempt employees because they are the two that allow for the easiest and most transparent overtime calculations

Semimonthly payrolls have 24 pay periods per year with two pay dates per month. These pay dates are commonly paid on either the 1st and the 15th day of the month or the 15th and the last day of the month and consist of 86.67 hours per pay period. Monthly payrolls have 12 pay periods per year with a monthly pay date. Each monthly payroll consists of 173.33 hours. Both semimonthly and monthly payrolls are more common for exempt employees that are earning a set salary each payroll. This is because overtime can be confusing and difficult to follow as it may be earned in one week but then falls under a different pay period.

things to know before running payroll

Many small business owners think payroll processing is simple. Well, it’s only simple if everything is set up properly at the beginning. And that’s a big if. Some of the largest financial risks entrepreneurs suffer are penalties and interest fees for incorrect payroll tax reporting. It’s definitely worthwhile to understand what’s involved before getting started.

What counts as payroll?

The most common forms of payroll are wages and salaries paid to employees for services performed in a business. Wages also include: tips, bonuses, commissions, and fringe benefits such as employer provided cell phones or automobiles.

Who are employees?

Improper classification of workers can cause substantial financial consequences and is one of the most important parts of payroll to understand.

Does it matter where employees live?

Absolutely! An employee’s permanent residence is considered his or her tax “home” and determines what taxes he or she has to pay in that state. Employers withhold the same amount of federal taxes no matter where the employee lives or works.

State income taxes are usually determined by considering the state, which state the employee works (business operates) and where the employee lives. In most cases, employers have a withholding responsibility in the state where their employee actually works, which can either be their resident or nonresident state.

Employee Payroll Tips for Small Business Owners

Payroll can be a challenging task for any small business but with the right tools, it can become easy and routine. There are a number of best practices for payroll management you can follow to keep you and your employees happy. We asked experts to share employee payroll tips for a healthy, sustainable small business.

As your business continues to grow, so will your payroll expenses. It is essential to determine what your approximate budget will be. As a business owner, you are required to match both Medicare and Social Security that is withheld from your employee’s pay. Depending on where your business operates, you may also be required to pay other employment taxes. In addition to fixed costs, you must take into consideration variable costs such as commissions and benefits that might be associated with your payroll, along with time and attendance software. Take the time to sit down with your accountant to determine your budget and make an effort to keep your expenses as low as possible. The lower your payroll expenses are, the higher your profit margin.

Small business owners who employ an hourly workforce depend on accurate, timely payroll to ensure their staff are engaged and retained. Having a seamlessly integrated system that automatically pushes worked hours into a central accounting system will make payroll management faster, accurate, and more efficient. One of the best investments you can make in your small business operations is in an integrated scheduling and payroll system that ensures staff are paid in a timely fashion. This, in turn, inspires your staff to trust and rely on their schedules and to treat your business like it was their own.

Paying your staff a salary can make your payroll much easier to manage, as they always get paid the same amount. However, it might not make sense for your business model or for the type of work your staff are doing. Paying by the hour is more complex, as you’ll need to keep track of how many hours each staff member has worked and then calculate their pay each period. There are plenty of time sheet solutions out there that can make this easier for you to manage, allowing your staff to clock in and out themselves. Many time sheet solutions can also integrate with your payroll software so everything’s kept up to date.

Small businesses have a lot of options when it comes to how often they pay their employees, and there are a lot of factors business owners must consider when deciding how often to run payroll. Will it be weekly, bi-weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly? That typically depends on the overall size of the company. Smaller businesses that employ fewer workers may be able to get away with a more frequent payroll schedule. However, as your business grows, your needs may change.

PAYROLL SERVICE IS DESIGNED FOR BUSINESSES OF ALL SIZES

Processing your own payroll can be complicated, time-consuming and fraught with risks. Among other things, payroll functions can include anything from determining employee wages and withholding taxes, to updating vacation and sick pay and deducting employee-contributed payments for benefits. Business of all sizes, from the smallest to the largest

The cost of an employee’s wages, plus benefits, adds up quickly. If you own of a small to medium size company and  trying to process your own payroll in house, use, the cost of the time spent is even greater. If you outsource payroll, you don’t have to worry about your payroll processing company calling in sick, resigning, wanting to take a vacation, taking a day or for a kid’s field day or needing several months or maternity leave.

Mistakes lead to audits and penalties — situations no business wants or needs. Government rules and regulations are always changing and business owners can’t be expected to stay on top of these changes. Professional payroll providers, on the other hand, must stay current with rules, regulations and changes in tax rates. Outsourced payroll providers calculate payroll taxes, manage filings and payments and will assume the cost of penalties due to incorrect calculations or late payments as long as you provide the necessary information and funds on time. Keeping abreast of state, federal, local and industry-specific regulation changes can be at best a real challenge. Tension-free: When you own a business, you already have enough things on your mind and you catch every possibility to share the load. Giving the payroll responsibilities to a service provider can prove to be a great respite for you.

Moving Tips You Can’t Do Without

Finding a professional moving company has become easier with the wealth of information and resources available online. From company reviews to license verification for movers and statements of insurance a moving company must provide a number of verifiable checks that a person seeking moving services can use to protect themselves. Before you move consider that you are purchasing a service and the cheapest moving company may not be the best choice after all. Do a little research and understand what you are purchasing before you hire a long distance movers.

Be thorough and investigate a company. Ask them for references and see what they can produce. If they have no happy clients that are willing to speak to you then be cautious. Happy customers are not that difficult to find for a good moving company but excuses for not having one are pretty easy to make up and unscrupulous movers have been known to say just about anything.

Ask for an in house estimate so the mover can actually come to your home and inspect your items for a proper move cost quote. When dealing with a moving company you must verify their license and insurance information before you make a deposit and be sure you are dealing with the actual movers and not a moving broker. A broker will take your deposit and then find a moving company for you. They have no trucks and they will not be picking up your things on time. The break down in communication between brokers, drivers and homeowners will cause nothing but problems.

Before you start packing it’s a good idea to create a spreadsheet and assign numbers to each box. Stick a label with the corresponding number on each box this will help you keep track of your items and make it a lot easier when you unload. If you have decided to pack your own boxes make sure you choose good quality moving supplies don’t go for the cheap options. While you may initially save money in the long run you may end up paying for it. It’s common for items to get damaged in boxes that are not well supported and give way under pressure. A lot of people decide to pack their own personal items and leave the heavy stuff for the movers. If this is the case it’s recommended to separate the items out beforehand or pack them before the actual moving day, this will prevent items getting mixed up. Disconnect any items like washing machines and fridges well in advance. You will have to defrost the fridge in advance otherwise you may risk damaging items in the van with water damage. Notify the moving company in advance of any heavy items like pianos and large sofas as they may have to send more men to help with the move.

On the day of the move make sure you don’t disconnect your phone without advising the moving company of alternate number to be contacted on. It’s vital that the moving company can reach you. To assist the moving men make sure the access to your house or apartment is clear of obstructions. When all the goods are loaded on the truck go back inside and check everything room to make sure nothing has been missed. Upon delivery direct the moving men to drop off your boxes in the correct room; this job would have been made easier since you have the spreadsheet listing where everything goes. Document any damaged items on the delivery receipt and make sure you and the driver sign the documents, otherwise claims for losses or damages may be voided. If there are any damaged items you must also contact the moving office as well. You can read more useful moving tips from the people of the USA, who express moving advice for people moving. Moving can be very frustrating process but if you take the time to plan well in advance you can reduce the stress for all parties involved.

Regardless of the method used, plan ahead and your move will be much easier. These moving tips will help prepare you for a much smoother move, whether you are using moving pods, filling up a rental truck, or waiting for the moving guys to show up.

Protecting Toddlers From Mosquitoes

How to Find and Kill That Single Mosquito Buzzing Around Your Room

You could be sitting there reading or watching TV for hours with no problems, but as soon as you go to your room, get into bed and try to fall asleep, you hear it. The high-pitched buzzing start out sounding faint, but gradually gets closer until it’s right in your ear. You swat it away and turn on your lamp, but it’s too late. You’ve been bitten by a smooth mosquito

If you’re interested in trying this strategy, do the following:

Grab a flashlight and turn off all the lights if they’re not already off.

Turn on a single, small light source—a lamp, phone, tablet. Keep your flashlight off for now.

Roam the room slowly and listen for the buzzing. After a few minutes, the mosquito will likely make its way toward the light source and land on the wall nearby.

Turn on your flashlight and hold it flat against the wall, then move the beam along the wall.

Eventually, the light will hit the mosquito and create a large shadow so you can find it and smash it.

The technology trap

The other method I came across, which we’ll call the “technology trap method,” involves a tablet or phone

You don’t even have to get out of bed to do it. Here’s how it works:

You stay in bed on your back and place your tablet or phone on your chest with the screen on and set to be very bright (tablets work best here).

If you have light-colored or white sheets, bend your knees and poke them up so the sheet is visible when look straight ahead. This will make the mosquito more visible. Think of your tablet as the stage and your propped up sheets as the backdrop.

Now take big deep breaths and exhale in the direction of the tablet on your chest. The carbon dioxide from your breath, in addition to the light, will draw the mosquito in.

Play the waiting game. The mosquito will make its way to you, and might even land right on the tablet. Smash away

Both of these methods seem pretty effective, but I’d suggest you have something nearby to smash the mosquito with. Otherwise you’ll end up with a handful of bug guts and you’ll have to go wash your hands.

How do I find and kill a single mosquito in the middle of the night?

Just because it is re-chargeable you can first charge it and keep it beside you and whenever you find any mosquito you can target it and kill this with this racket.

You can use it by pressing that red button. While pressing it there will be some electric charges come at those nets and when any mosquito come in contact with those net it dies at that moment. Since there is one more layer of net to protect you from getting any damage from that and its also not that much risky. If by accident you touch it, it will give you just a little shock but its good to take precautions.

Get a bug zapper. I’ve usually seen these on porches but we stayed at a cabin in mosquitoville and naturally some mosquitoes snuck in. The first night it was bzzzz bzzzz in my ear all night. The next night I found a bug zapper and hung it inside the cabin right by the door. I never heard another mosquito at night for the next six nights.

One way I have tried and became successful many times is by analysis of behaviour of mosquitoes.Mosquitoes try to hide in areas such as shelf, almirah, beneath desks. Now you can create a situation for them.In light open the almirah a bit such that light slightly crosses the almirah. You may find mosquitoes usually sitting there.Dont waste time if you want to kill.Stamp them.

In shelves in one of the corners pile some waste like old boxes and bags.It acts as suitable place for mosquitoes to hide. When you air it you will find it flying.

Understanding mosquitoes can help us find better ways to kill them

You might not think an insect like a mosquito could be so complex, so I thought I would share some lesser-known facts about them.

I am a mosquito researcher who lives and works in Florida, and when I tell people what I do for a living, I get all sorts of questions. Not surprisingly, most of the questions I get from the general public have to do with blood feeding and mosquitoes’ disease-transmitting abilities. And like many researchers in my field, I’ve spent a lot of time studying mosquitoes to find better ways to control or eradicate them.

But did you know that many mosquito species can’t actually spread pathogens or parasites? And while no one likes getting bitten by mosquitoes, you might be surprised (and even a little fascinated) at the complex adaptions mosquitoes have developed to locate their favorite food sources.

Blood meals are only for the ladies

The females of most species of mosquito are blood feeders (a practice entomologists call hematophagy), because they use proteins in blood to make yolk for their eggs. They also consume plant nectar to fuel their activities to locate blood sources and lay eggs. Male mosquitoes, on the other hand, feed only on plant nectar.

And in a few species females can produce eggs without a blood meal, using nutrients carried over from their juvenile stage to make yolk and produce eggs. This is termed autogeny.

How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes

Constantly swatting away mosquitoes can be frustrating. Fortunately, whether you’re camping or relaxing in your yard, there are some tricks you can use to keep pesky mosquitoes away.

Slap them with a swatter. A mosquito swatter, usually made of a thicker metal or plastic than a regular fly swatter, is mounted on the end of a springy wire. This dramatically increases your chances of hitting a stationary mosquito by increasing the momentum of the swat.

Wear chemical mosquito repellent. Keeping mosquitoes away from your body is the best way to avoid getting bitten. Use insect repellent on uncovered skin surfaces and on your clothing when you’re outdoors, especially during the day. When using sunscreen, apply it before insect repellent

Repellents containing 30% to 50% DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide) are the most popular type of repellents, and are recommended for adults and children over 2 months of age and are effective for several hours. Repellents with lower amounts of DEET offer shorter-term protection and must be applied more often.

Repellents containing up to 15% picaridin, which must be applied often, are available in the US. Picaridin is odorless, has a pleasant feel, and doesn’t plasticize like DEET. Studies have shown it to be as fully repellent to mosquitoes as DEET and can also be applied on infants as young as 2 months.

Protect infants less than 2 months of age by using a carrier draped with mosquito netting with an elastic edge for a tight fit rather using a repellent.

Use an oil-based repellent. The safety of using chemical deterrents manufactured by combining synthetic chemicals in the laboratory has been questioned, and there are many natural solutions you can use instead. Citronella oil, cinnamon oil and castor oil are reputed to keep mosquitoes away. Most natural repellents require more frequent application or use than the chemical versions.

How To Get Rid of Mosquitoes

Their high pitched whine is unmistakeable. Swatting them when they hit your skin is a rite of passage when camping. Yet knowing how to get rid of mosquitoes means knowing how to get rid of a potential disease threat. This guide will help you make that happen.

Mosquito Facts

Did you know that you’re not really getting bit when you receive a mosquito bite? These insects don’t have any teeth. What they do have is a sharp mouth that can literally pry open the skin. Then they have tubes that they’ll stick through the skin to access blood. Don’t worry about the guy mosquitoes – they don’t attack. It’s only the female mosquitoes that will suck your blood. The male mosquitoes only live 6-9 days, however, so it’s not a long, fulfilling life.

Most homes that have a mosquito infestation live near standing water. A pond, a slow moving creek, or another low movement body of water is the perfect place for mosquitoes to grow. These insects spend their first 10 days in water, so if a large storm deposits puddles in your yard, get that water drained in the next week or you could start to see some mosquitoes buzzing around.

Signs of Mosquitoes

If it’s above 50 degrees and there is standing water somewhere near your property, then there’s a good chance that you’ve got mosquitoes. They typically come out during the morning and evening twilight hours, but any time the sunlight isn’t bright and the humidity is high, there will be mosquitoes hanging around. That’s why walking around in the woods can often bring these blood suckers your way.

How To Kill Mosquitoes

Most mosquito control methods actually involve repelling them instead of killing them. It is recommended that everyone wear a repellent that contains DEET to minimize the risk of being bitten by these insects. Mosquitoes in the United States may carry West Nile Virus while worldwide they can carry malaria and cause encephalitis. Any time the temperature is above 50 degrees outside and there’s a suspicion of mosquitoes, it is important today to wear some form of a repellent. No exceptions.

Pain Management Techniques After Surgery

Palliative Care Methods for Controlling Pain

palliative care is used to manage a disease or medical condition that is serious or life threatening by easing pain and other associated physical, emotional, or psychosocial symptoms

Palliative care also eases other distressing symptoms, like depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, and shortness of breath. Palliative care provides advanced care planning and a support system to help you live a life that is as active, fulfilling, and as pain-free as possible.

Principles of palliative care and pain medicine

The first step in managing pain is to do a total pain assessment. You may be asked to choose a number from 0 to 10 to rank your pain, with 0 being very mild pain and 10 being the worst possible pain you could have.

Understanding opioid drugs

Opioid drugs are the most effective and commonly used drugs for moderate to severe pain. A wide range of opioid drugs is available, and they can be taken in a variety of ways. One drawback of these medicines is that, over time, you will almost certainly develop a tolerance to the one you’re taking and need higher doses to get the same effect. One way your healthcare provider may get around this problem is by switching the type, dose, or the way the drug is given.

Understanding helper drugs

These medicines, called adjuvant analgesics, can help control pain in certain situations.

How to properly manage patients’ pain

One recent evening in Denver, a man known to EMS to have a history of drug abuse was brought by ambulance to Denver General Hospital after being hit by a car. A bone in his arm was poking through his skin, but paramedics didn’t give him pain medication. “We’re familiar with him. He likes his drugs,” Christopher Colwell, M.D., an emergency physician and medical director for the Denver Fire Department and Denver Health Paramedic Division, recalls medics telling him

Colwell was appalled. The man was obviously in severe pain, yet he was being denied relief because of his drug dependency status. “It was astounding. Here was someone with a bone sticking out of his arm, whose pain should have been treated,” he says. “Yet medics were not able to step out of that and treat the patient based on his current situation rather than his history.”

Relieving pain becomes a priority

For a condition as uncomfortable and as universal as pain, it took until the mid-’90s for pain management to become a priority in hospitals. “At the time, we were really coming to full recognition of how poorly we were doing in managing patients’ pain,” says Bob Twillman, Ph.D., director of policy and advocacy for the American Academy of Pain Management in Sonora, Calif.

Research papers showed that patients with poorly treated pain were more likely to end up with chronic pain conditions, post-traumatic stress, depression, and other physical and psychological problems, while other research showed that proper pain management could help with wound healing and get people home from the hospital sooner, Twillman says. At the same time, new pharmaceuticals came on the market, providing alternative pain-relief options. “Prior to the mid-’90s, we had oxycodone (Percocet) and hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab) and only one long-acting opioid—morphine,” Twillman says. “But then fentanyl patches and Oxycontin became available. We had a lot more options for treating people not just with acute pain, but with longstanding pain related to cancer or other pain conditions.”

Responders reluctant to give drugs

Even as hospitals worked to better manage pain, awareness of the importance of pain management in the prehospital setting lagged. EMS has no pain-management standards as part of accreditation. (The Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services, or CAAS, doesn’t include a pain-management standard as part of its clinical assessment.) Nor is pain management a major part of EMS education, Taigman says. Sure, pain medications are touched on. But there are no long discussions about the role of the prehospital care provider in treating pain. “There’s a long module on reading EKGs, a super long module on trauma assessment and management, but there’s no module on pain management,” he says.

How to Choose the Best Over-the-Counter Pain Medicine

Pain is one of the most challenging symptoms to treat. It can be caused by many different things such as heat, cold, pressure, traction, inflammation, and nerve damage. Over-the-counter (OTC) pain medicines offer a wide variety of treatment options for the various types of pain. It’s important to understand the cause of your pain in order to choose the best medicine(s) to treat it. I’ll review some of the most common types of pain, and explain which active ingredients are best suited to provide relief.

Headaches & Migraines

Believe it or not, doctors are still not completely sure what causes headaches. The Mayo Clinic notes, “Chemical activity in your brain, the nerves or blood vessels of your head outside your skull, or muscles of your head and neck — or some combination of these factors — may play a role in primary headaches.”

The most common kind of headache is known as a “tension headache” and as the name suggests, it often feels like a tight band around your head. Asprin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and acetaminophen all are effective to treat tension headaches, but it’s important not to overuse OTC headache medicines or else you may experience headaches from the medicines themselves. According to physician resource Up to Date, “over-use headaches” can occur if you use these medicines for more than nine days over the course of a month.

Arthritis Pain

Arthritis literally means “joint inflammation” and it is one of the most common causes of pain experienced by adults. Most arthritis is due to normal “wear-and-tear” on joints and is known as osteoarthritis. There are less common types of arthritis that are caused by an autoimmune reaction to joint tissues (such as rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis).

Muscle Pain

Muscle pain is usually caused by micro-tears in muscle fibers that stimulate nerve endings in the surrounding tissues. Nerve endings that sense inflammation, stretch and pressure exist near muscle tissue and their messages are usually perceived by the brain as dull, aching pain sensations. People experience muscle pain most commonly after exertion or exercise. In addition to oral anti-inflammatory medicines, acetaminophen, and NSAIDs, many OTC muscle pain treatments involve the application of heat, or superficial cooling and anti-inflammatory creams. The active ingredients in topical consumer products that have been found to be helpful in easing muscle pain and soreness are: menthol, camphor, methyl salicylate, capsaicin, heat wraps, and cold packs.

Pain Management During End-of-life

Understanding Pain During End-of-life

Unfortunately, what should be a time to spend with loved ones is all too often accompanied by severe pain. To give just one example, a report published in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care revealed that for over 50% of patients with terminal cancer, their pain is managed insufficiently. Especially at the end of life, serious pain is an unnecessary distraction which can rob terminal patients of precious time with the people who they value the most

Understanding Pain Management

Pain management and palliative care has advanced greatly over the past few decades and this no longer needs to be the case. June Dahl, PhD, a professor of pharmacology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a founder of the American Alliance of Cancer Pain Initiatives says that over 90% and perhaps as many as 95% of terminal patients should be able to be given a significant amount of relief from their pain. While Dahl says that eliminating pain completely isn’t realistic, it is realistic for patients to expect that their pain can be minimized to the point that it could be described as 2 or 3 on a scale of 0 to 10.

Managing Pain

Pain relief should always be one of the top priorities in the treatment of terminal patients. Too much emphasis on treating other symptoms or the underlying disease in the face of a poor prognosis can mean that terminal patients will have to wait needlessly to receive hospice care and to benefit from a more aggressive pain management strategy

Where Support Is Provided

Terminally ill patients may receive hospice care in a dedicated hospice facility or, as is increasingly the case, in their own home, where patients may feel more at ease. Hospice care is provided by a team which includes doctors, nurses, physician assistants, therapists and chaplains make regular visits to the patient in their home and give instruction to family members and other caregivers on administering pain medications and comforting the patient. These hospice care specialists have also been trained on assisting patients and their loved ones to handle the emotional and mental toll of dealing with a terminal illness and end of life

Complications of Pain Management

Even with regular administration of pain medication, terminal patients may still need higher dosages at times or a change in their medication routine in order to manage their pain. Caregivers need to monitor the pain of their loved ones by asking the patient regularly about their pain and react appropriately. Pain can quickly become acute at the end of life and patients may not always volunteer this information, so it becomes especially important for caregivers to ask this important question regularly.

All You Need to Know About Pain Management in Hospice

When faced with a serious illness, patients are accustomed to seeking out the support of a specialist. Facing heart disease, patients want a well-trained cardiologist by their side. When diagnosing a particular type of cancer, a primary care physician will refer their patient to an oncologist with expertise in that area. For terminally ill patients, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care is the comfort care specialist patients need to control pain and other end-of-life symptoms.

Hospice Pain Management

Pain management is one of the primary goals of hospice care – keeping the patient comfortable and managing symptoms to ensure they have the highest quality of life for as long as they live.

Signs and Symptoms of Pain

While many patients can assess and communicate their pain levels, other patients can sometimes believe that admitting pain makes them appear weak – which is not true. In other cases, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia make it difficult for individuals to communicate their needs. In any case, caregivers should keep an eye out for signs and symptoms that indicate their loved one is in pain.

Hospice Pain Medication Protocol

Medication is an essential tool in hospice pain management. This includes the use of opioids to control pain. Opioids work by attaching themselves to “opioid receptors” in the brain, blocking the feeling of pain. They are used to treat moderate to severe pain

Managing Emotional and Spiritual Pain

In addition to managing physical pain, the hospice pain management plan will assess the patient’s emotional and spiritual pain.

Why Use A Wedding Dj

How to choose the perfect DJ for your Wedding as a Newly Engaged couple

I’m engaged! Now what!?

You’re engaged to be married – congratulations! What an exciting, joyous and (slightly) nerve-racking time you’ve got ahead of you. So much stuff to sort out and so many aspects of your wedding to meticulously plan. Where on earth should you start!?

How much does a wedding DJ cost?

Now, one of the first questions happy couples have when they’re planning their wedding is ‘how much does a wedding DJ cost?’ And the answer is ‘it depends’. It depends on whether you simply want someone to show up and play some tunes, or you want a well-rounded, professional partner who’s going to work with you to ensure your big day is absolutely perfect.

Awards: Perhaps 1 or 2 Wedding Industry Awards

At the end of the day, you need to ask yourself how important a role is your wedding entertainment going to play in the overall success of your big day? Then, decide how much value it’s going to add and how much pressure it’s going to relieve if you hire an elite wedding DJ who’s more than willing to help you with numerous aspects of your planning.

Of course, your available budget is going to be a significant factor when choosing a wedding DJ, but please don’t underestimate the extra value a true pro can bring to the party.

How to Choose a Wedding DJ

Choosing a wedding DJ is an important decision because music sets the mood for the event. Making sure that he or she is a professional is not enough. If you have different taste in music and just don’t click, you won’t work well together. Here are some tips for choosing a wedding DJ. Use referrals. Googling DJs that work in your area is the easiest approach to the task, but how can you be sure that DJs you’ve found are actually good? We recommend that you ask friends and relatives who have recently had or attended a wedding for recommendations. Of course, you should to ask people whom you really trust.

Consider your budget. As with any other wedding professional, there are expensive DJs and relatively cheap DJs. Think about how much you are ready to pay the DJ and stick to your wedding budget. We are sure you will be able to find good DJ within your preferable price range. However, we will recommend against choosing the cheapest one. If the price is too low, it is suspicious

Do your research. Many DJs have a page on SoundCloud.com and/or upload videos of their gigs on YouTube. You absolutely should check them out. And don’t forget to Google some client reviews and references.

Meet them in person. Once you’ve narrowed down the list of potential candidates, you need to meet and interview each of them before making the final decision. Before making an appointment, make sure the DJ is available on your wedding date. If not, there is no point in meeting them

Trust your instincts. Experience and professionalism are important, but they are not the only thing that matters. Every DJ has their own personal style. You need to make sure that his or her style is compatible with your and your guests’ tastes. If you really like the DJ even though they don’t have much experience or stellar recommendations, go with him or her. Gut feelings rarely lie

Make sure they’ll take requests

When it comes to hiring a wedding DJ in the DC area, requests shouldn’t be a problem. But they become a bit more complicated if you hire a live band.

This information is crucial to knowing the costs involved. In terms of the venue, it is always preferable to know the estimated size of the venue

Establish the theme of the wedding. If possible, get some input from the wedding couple and planner on the theme, mood or intended feel of the wedding. This will give you an idea of the preferred DJs.

Choosing a DJ

Compile a list of possible DJ choices. Use the internet, yellow pages, bridal shows, or get the names of some DJs who performed at your friends’ or relatives’ weddings who did a good job.

How to Choose Between a Wedding DJ or Live Band

So you’re working your way through your wedding checklist, and have reached the point where you have to make the difficult decision between hiring a DJ or live band to get the party started at your wedding reception.

DJ vs. Live Band

There are a few things to consider when making this important decision. We’ll go through the factors we think are most crucial to help you decide, but here’s a quick summary to get you started

Think about your Budget

What Is A Checking Accountant

Branch Accounting – Understanding the Basics

Branch or Agency?

Depending on its objectives, the enterprise may adopt the form of either a branch or an agency. Both are part of a central organization and while they conduct operations away from their home office, they are not a separate legal entity from the latter.

The key difference between the two lies in their degree of autonomy or independence. For instance, a sales agency typically does not stock inventory, but only displays merchandise, takes orders and arranges for delivery of the merchandise. In other words, the agency merely acts on behalf of the home office (H.O.), with the latter handling the other aspects of operations such as purchase of merchandise, advertising, and granting of credit.

The branch, however, has a greater degree of autonomy and thus operates more independently of the home office than the agency, primarily in the following aspects:

  • Provision of a wider range of services to customers or clientele
  • Exercise of greater management decision-making
  • Handling of more aspects of business operations, such as stocking of inventory, filling of customers’ orders, credit and collection
  • Maintenance of a separate accounting system

Branch Accounting System

A business is often separated into a number of different branches each of which is treated as its own profit center. Branch accounting allows the business to prepare branch trading and profit and loss accounts in order that it can assess the profitability of each of these branches.

The advantages of branch accounting are that the business is able to identify the financial performance of each of its branches. By making comparisons it can identify inefficient branches and make informed managerial decisions about their future. In addition managers and staff can be given responsibility and motivated and rewarded on the basis of branch performance.

It should be noted that branches differ from departments in that they are operated from different locations; for example a retail business might have branches in different cities. In contrast departments are usually operated from the same location.

Home Information Packing Services Explained From The Point Of View Of A Conveyancing Solicitor

WHAT IS PICK AND PACK?

Your logistics company undoubtedly has a supply-chain management. This allows your services and goods to move from supplier or retailer and into the hands of your customers. This is known as the supply chain.

Pick and pack is a part of the greater supply-chain management. It’s one cog in the wheel that keeps the whole thing moving flawlessly. This order fulfillment is popular among eCommerce or Internet brands that have customers all over the world. That’s because of the way items are prepared, which is hinted at in the name.

With pick and pack logistics, the warehouse employees at the eCommerce company will work from master cartons. There will be many of these cartons on each shelf of a warehouse. The workers will take the relevant items from each master carton. This is the picking part of pick and pack.

Types of Picking and Packing Methods in a Warehouse

There is a range of different picking methods utilised by order fulfilment hubs, which depending on the size and type of your business may work for you. Take a look at these different methods which may improve the quality and productivity of your supply chain.

Discrete Order Picking

The simplest method of picking and probably the most common. It requires an individual to pick a single order, one at a time as and when they receive it. However, though this method is uncomplicated and easy to employ it is not time efficient and so would be best suited to smaller warehouses.

Batch Picking

As the name suggests, this requires the order fulfiller to pick multiple orders at one time. While it still requires workers to choose items for an individual mandate, it is more efficient than discrete order picking as it reduces travelling time, especially if the orders required share the same or similar SKUs. This method is often employed in warehouses with larger e-commerce activity. However, unless the order-picker has access to automated picking services such as a conveyor belt or a forklift, this method can be ineffective if the customer orders are physically large or heavy.

Zone Picking

This method requires the warehouse to be divided into several zones, of which order-pickers are then explicitly assigned. Order-pickers are then responsible for picking and packing SKUs within these designated zones. If there is an order with multiple items, employees in each zone will pass packages to one another until the final product has been packed. The packing This method is more efficient than both discrete order picking and batch picking but only allows for one scheduling period per shift. Meaning that if the worker finishes their turn and there is no-one on shift after them, orders are placed into the queue until the following change.

Wave Picking

This is another commonly used method in order fulfilment warehouses. It is similar to discrete order picking in the sense that one order is being pulled at a time by the order-picker, but unlike discrete order picking, wave picking has a scheduling window. This method helps to increase time efficiency and maximise productivity within the pick and pack company by scheduling picking at the most appropriate times of the day. There are other methods used in warehouses which have also proved to be successful, such as multi-batch picking, or zone-batch-wave picking, but those mentioned above are the most commonly used.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WAREHOUSE PICKING?

Many industries stand to benefit from a bonded warehousing pick and pack service, including retailers, manufacturers and eCommerce stores. Just some of these benefits include…

  • Fast delivery: Being able to offer customers and clients fast and efficient delivery services will make them more likely to place an order with a business.
  • Positive reputation: If a customer has a positive delivery experience they are not only more likely to become a repeat customer but they will begin to further associate the company with reliability and dependability.
  • Stock management: Having a dedicated pick and pack service ensures inventory data is constantly updated. This ensures any bulk orders made can be fulfilled, as the company will have a clear idea of the stock they have available.
  • Stock protection: Storing your stock in a bonded warehouse ensures it can be stored safely. During a pick and pack service, the warehouse team will be able to identify any anomalies in stock, should they occur, preventing customers from receiving sub-par products.

Why would a company take advantage of pick and pack services?

Unless you’re a retail behemoth like Amazon, operating your own pick and pack operation can be very costly and time consuming. Outsourcing to a warehouse eliminates the need for individual businesses to invest in or maintain their own warehouse space (and the workforce to manage it). With the help of an outside logistics specialist, you can focus on your core competencies without the additional stress of managing every moving part of your own supply chain. Using sophisticated inventory management software, a company like Commercial Warehousing can keep a constant eye on stock levels and guarantee prompt delivery to your customers.

Pick and pack services are especially advantageous for smaller companies. Large warehouses receive more comfortable shipping rates because of their high volume of orders. They also have their own customer service teams who specialize in shipping. So if you’re running a small business, a third party pick and pack service can allow you to offer the same level of service, security and shipping speed as a larger competitor.

Ultimately, pick and pack services help ensure that customers receive their orders intact and on time. And since how your product arrives can determine how much trust your customers place in your company, choosing a responsible, hardworking warehousing company can be one of the most important business decisions you make.
