Building a Green World
Cement is an essential material for today’s society as concrete is made from cement, which is an inevitable element for housing, commercial and infrastructure development. Measured on a kilogram per capita basis, concrete is the second most widely consumed material in the world, second only to water. Cement manufacturing processes have seen an increasing amount of local impacts (landscape disturbance, dust emission) and global impacts (CO2, SOx and NOx emissions). Due to these impacts, sustainable development has recently become a major strategic issue for cement manufacturers around the world. The cement industry is giving very specific attention for managing CO2 emissions.
The Ultimate Step by Step Guide to the Home Building Process
When your new home is being built, you can take one of two approaches. You can be a passive observer and let a contractor do their job without interference. When you take this, you had better be sure that you trust your contractor to follow your wishes. Instead, you can take an active approach and act as your own contractor. It is this approach that will be discussed below.
Is It Possible To Be Your Own Contractor?
Yes, it is more than possible. At this point, you might be thinking that it takes a lot of experience and knowledge to do this kind of thing properly. However, we are not talking about taking the place of those who actually do the work. Those people are called subcontractors. Rather, you can act as a general contractor.
A general contractor coordinates the activities of various subcontractors. Although this job certainly requires some skill, it can be done. In essence, all you have to do is make the schedules of the various subcontractors work in a harmonious way. This helps the work to be done more efficiently. That is the entire essence of the job. By taking on this job for yourself, you can save some serious money.
Finding The Right Subcontractors
This is where intelligent and successful contractors will be separated from those who are not so intelligent. It is certainly easy to find a group of people that are willing to do some construction work. However, finding good people can be a lot more difficult.
Laying The Foundation
During this phase of construction, workers will level the area and place wooden boards around the edges to form a container. Concrete is then poured into this mold to form the foundation of the house.

Is building a new home the right choice for me?
One of the first things to consider is whether to buy an existing home or build a new one.
Location may be your main priority, and of course affordability plays a big part, but you should also consider the benefits of a new home over existing:
New homes will meet newer, more rigid, building and compliance standards, e.g. new homes will be double glazed and better insulated.
Better quality materials.
You get what you want, a home designed for your family and lifestyle.
Less ongoing maintenance.
No messy renovations.
And generally speaking a new home gives you better performance and more chance of equity.
When it comes time to sell – will it be easier to resell a newly built home?

Understanding the Permitting Process
This website summarizes the basic steps to getting a permit. The steps you go through will depend on the characteristics of your property and on your goals for developing the property.

General Description of Building Permit Process
Two Basic Phases
There are two basic phases to the building permit process:
Application submittal: When permit applications are submitted, county staff reviews the applications and building plans for compliance with building and land-use codes.
Construction inspection: Construction inspection takes place after a building permit has been issued. A building inspector approves each part of the project as it progresses, checking to see that the work is done safely nd in accordance with the approved plans and codes.
Two Basic Types of Permits
Building permits can be processed either as a “regular permit“ — where a site plan and building plans are submitted for review — or as a “minor permit.
- Regular permits: Regular permits are building permits issued for new construction work or remodeling work. Building plans are submitted, the plan is reviewed by staff, and staff may request revisions and subsequent reviews to verify that corrections have been made. To avoid or reduce the number of subsequent plan checks (and avoid overtime fees), please be certain to incorporate all of the corrections into the plans. A site plan must accompany all building permits and include all required items from the site plan submittal checklist. Regular permits may take weeks — or even months — to process, depending on the site conditions and the complexity of the project.
- Minor permits are likely to be issued “over-the-counter” and generally do not require building plans. They include: installing plumbing fixtures, adding heating equipment, adding or replacing gas appliances, gas piping, replacing roofing, replacing windows, or replacing siding. For minor permit (SA 006), county staff will review the application at the counter while you wait. If the application is complete, a minor permit can be issued in a single visit.
